Please arrive at store 10 minutes before the start time.
Parking: Our top tip is to park at Bailey Car Park, Skipton, BD23 1UA – it’s just £4.80 for the day enabling you to enjoy seeing Skipton Castle or enjoy the market after your walk! If you need a loo stop before the walk, there are public toilets next to Marks & Spencer, in Castle Car Park, just down the hill and behind the High Street on the left.
Distance: 8.7 km in 3 hours – this includes time for a break to enjoy the fantastic views of Skipton from high up on the moor!
Difficulty : 50/50 easy/moderate
Terrain: Flat, easy canal path, steady climb on farm track and grassy moorland with a few challenging stiles over dry stone walls. A grassy ascent to a trig point, our summit of the day (optional) on Skipton Moor at 373m above sea level. Steep descent on eroded dirt tracks, easy pavement on final leg
What to bring: Please wear sturdy walking shoes with grip, bring your water bottle, any Medic*tion you might need, (Eg. Inhaler), consider a hat/sun protection and wear clothing suitable for the forecast. (Eg. Bring a raincoat if forecast is wet!)
About Skipton : Skipton is derived from the Anglo Saxon words ‘sceap’ (sheep) and ‘tun’ (town) and is recorded in the Doomesday Book as Scepeton and has been the economic centre for the Craven and Southern Dales from this time.
Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales, the charming town of Skipton is a gateway to one of England’s most captivating waterways—With the advent of the Industrial Revolution the economy of Skipton boomed as the town benefitted from the construction of the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
Construction of the Leeds Liverpool Canal began in 1770 and spanned nearly 46 years.
The canal was Britain’s longest inland waterway (127 miles) was opened in 1816.
Skipton was a key stop along the route and experienced a significant boost in trade and commerce. On April 8, 1773, two canal barges loaded with coal departed from Bingley to Skipton, marking a historic milestone as the first boats to transport goods on the canal.
The canal became a crucial artery for the transportation of goods like coal, textiles, and limestone, fueling industrial growth across the region. Skipton’s industries flourished, transforming the town into a thriving center of trade that attracted residents and businesses to its banks.
During the mid-18th century, the growing towns of Yorkshire, including Leeds, Wakefield, and Bradford, saw increasing trade. Bradford merchants, in particular, sought an efficient supply of limestone for mortar and agriculture, using coal from the city’s collieries, while also transporting textiles to Liverpool’s bustling port.
The town boasts several long distance hiking trails, including Lady Anne’s Way (Lady Anne Clifford was born at Skipton Castle) and the well known Dales High Way.
What you’ll see: We leave Skipton High St via a ginnel that takes us directly to the canal where we can experience a little of the town’s industrial heritage whilst enjoying the busy atmosphere and
colourful boats. It carried stone, coal, wool, cotton, limestone, grain, and other goods throughout the 19th century and is now a busy hub for leisure cruising.
We eventually leave the canal behind as we head towards the moor, with a gentle ascent up an easy track, then crossing several fields using well worn stone stiles that need some care to climb over safely. As we reach our highest point on Skipton Moor at 373m, the terrain has a peaceful, wilder feel, and we are rewarded with spectacular views over the canal, the busy town and it’s magnificent 900 year old castle.

1.1. Data CollectedBy registering for the Event, the following personal data may be collected and processed:
- Full name, email address, phone number, and emergency contact information;
- Information regarding special needs, medical conditions, or dietary restrictions (if volunteered).
1.2. Purpose and Legal Basis for ProcessingYour data will be processed lawfully under Article 6(1)(b) of the UK GDPR, as it is necessary for the performance of this contract. Specifically:
- For ticket purchase and Event registration;
- To ensure the safety and wellbeing of Participants during the Event;
- To communicate any updates, cancellations, or post-event evaluations.
1.3. Data Sharing with Third PartiesThe Organiser may share your personal data with trusted service providers acting as processors, such as:
- Ticketing platforms for registration purposes;
- Emergency services for health and safety measures during the Event.
- Any third-party processors are contractually obligated to protect your personal data in line with the UK GDPR.
1.4. Data RetentionThe Organiser will retain your personal data no longer than [12] months following the Event, unless retention is required to comply with legal or regulatory requirements. After this period, the data will be securely deleted or anonymised.
1.5. Your RightsAs a data subject, you have the following rights under the UK GDPR:
- The right to access, rectify, or request deletion of your data;
- The right to object to or restrict processing where applicable;
- The right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office (ICO) for any concerns.

Waivers:
This Liability Waiver relates solely to your participation in the event organised by Regatta Ltd (the "Event").I acknowledge that participating in the Event carries inherent risks, including but not limited to accidents, falls, illness, and injury. I confirm that I am not aware of any medical, physical, or mental condition that would prevent my participation in the Event. I accept responsibility for informing a staff member of any concerns before engaging in the Event or related activities.
I assume all risks associated with participating in the Event, including falls, contact with other participants, and other risks. I understand that Regatta Ltd, to the extent permitted by applicable law is not liable for any injuries I may sustain as a result of my participation.
In consideration of my acceptance into the Event, I agree to hold harmless, waive, and release Regatta Ltd, its directors, employees, agents, representatives, service providers, and successors from any responsibility, liability, or claims arising from my participation in the Event. This release covers all activities organised by or on behalf of the Regatta Ltd.
I hereby confirm that I have read and completely understand each term of this Liability Waiver Form and execute this document of my own free will and accord for the purposes of the consideration set forth.
This Liability Waiver Form will apply throughout the world and shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
