About this Event
In this workshop, Jennifer Sano-Franchini overviews generative AI refusal as a critical orientation, rhetorical intervention, and principled and rational response to the incursion of generative AI technologies in higher education. How might we motivate student writers at a time when generative AI products are seemingly free, purportedly efficient, and always available? What does it mean to refuse generative AI in the classroom when students are told they will need to know how to use these technologies to be successful in a competitive job market? Teachers from all disciplines who assign writing, who are interested in learning about critical perspectives on generative AI in higher education, and who are interested in resisting Big Tech’s incursion in higher education may benefit from attending this workshop.
The workshop will take place in FSS 4004 from 12-2pm on November 11th, 2026.
Main building entrances feature automatic door operators and barrier-free paths of travel. FSS 4004 is located on the fourth level and is accessible via the building's main entrances and elevators.
