About this Event
Reel Talk returns with Klara and the Sun, Taika Waititi’s thought-provoking (and controversial!) adaptation of the bestselling novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro (starring Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams).
Join host Pilar Nalwimba and Louis Holder for a screening followed by a lively discussion (with a special guest) about the film, its themes and the questions it raises.
Set in a technologically advanced future, Klara and the Sun follows Klara, an Artificial Friend (an android designed to prevent loneliness), who is waiting to find a human to call her own. When she is chosen by teenager Josie, Klara becomes part of a family navigating grief, uncertainty and complicated relationships. But can an artificial friend teach us something about what it really means to be human?
And this is Reel Talk, so you won't just be sitting quietly watching a film.
Expect:
- A pre and post-film discussion with Pilar, Louis and a special guest
- A wine, cocktail or soft drink on arrival (and bar open throughout)
- The chance to share your own thoughts and interpretations of the film
- Post-screening activities designed to get locals talking
Whether you're a film fan, a Kazuo Ishiguro reader, curious about the future of AI or simply fancy an evening of good film, good conversation and a drink, come and join us.
