2nd Friday Art Walk Performance by Red Nucleus in our Muse Gallery on Friday the May 8 th, from 6:30–8:30 pm.Genre: lively fingerstyle duets for guitar and bass
Michael Goy and David Cooper formed Red Nucleus in 2013. Their sound is difficult to categorize, lying at the intersection of folk, rock, American primitive, and new acoustic music. David plays the bass as a tuned percussion instrument that blends fluidly with Michael’s finger-style and open tunings on guitar. Melody, harmony, and rhythm are front-and-center. The band is based in Chapel Hill NC.
Style similar to: Michael Hedges, Pierre Bensusan, Leo Kottke, Yasmin Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Michael Gulezian, Kaki King, Gabriella Quevedo, Andy McKee, Bill Mize, Maneli Jamal, Hot Tuna
“Michael Goy is an exceptionally gifted acoustic fingerstyle guitarist whose compositions range from wonderfully unpredictable to downright gorgeous”
–Michael Gulezian (Timbreline recording artist)
“Guitarists be warned: you’ll want to try some alternate tunings on your acoustic after you see how these two get down... Prepare to have your mind blown”
–Jordan Edwards (talent booking agent, Durham NC)
“Red Nucleus’s insistent rhythms and melodies start on the bass or guitar and resolve in the audience’s head, so a Red Nucleus show is a true 'in concert' experience."
-Wes Collins (musician and composer)
