About this Event

Reclaiming our Health: Sound Healing Take a journey of healing through sound. Join us for an interactive session led by IMAN board member, Raigine Robinson. Refreshments will be available (while supplies last).

What is Sound Healing

Sound healing, or sound therapy, involves using vibrational instruments like sound or singing bowls (also known as standing bells), gongs, and tuning forks to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and balance energy within the body. By harnessing the power of sound frequencies, this practice helps release emotional blockages and supports mental, emotional, and physical healing. When offered to the community, sound healing provides a calming space for self-reflection, emotional release, and collective healing.

Raigine (Rai) Bio

Raigine (Rai) is a passionate community organizer and holistic practitioner based in Englewood, Chicago, with deep roots in her community. Dedicated to supporting healing and empowerment, she integrates mind-body wellness practices to help individuals on their path to recovery. As a sound healer, yoga teacher, writer, and acrobat, she brings a unique approach to community building through holistic health and the arts.

Raigine actively practices meditation, visualization, breathwork, mindfulness, and a range of naturopathic healing techniques, always honoring the cultural significance and origins of these traditions. In her yoga practice, she focuses on Yin and Restorative Yoga, recognizing the powerful benefits these styles offer in stretching connective tissues and preventing joint damage.

Her love for music is an integral part of her life. With a background in music production, songwriting, singing, and playing instruments, she draws on influences from house, funk, gospel, rock, and hip hop to craft unique beats. Bells, drums, and keys are her tools of expression, and her passion for sound extends to her study of music from over 20 languages and cultures.

Growing up surrounded by the sounds of gunshots in her neighborhood, Raigine turned to sound bowls to calm her anxiety and redirect energy. Now, as a sound healer, she uses these healing vibrations to create peace not only for herself but also to introduce the power of sound therapy to the residents of Englewood and throughout Chicago.

Through her work, Raigine seeks to foster healing, creative expression, and connection, blending ancient wisdom with modern sound to inspire empowerment and transformation.

Parking Information: Free street parking is available and pending event size a few spots are available in the back of the plaza

Special Thanks

The Go Green Griot Plaza was made possible by the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, and with the generous support of The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. This space was also funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, a part of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Road to Recovery Plan.

About the Go Green Griot Plaza

The Go Green Griot Plaza will be an outdoor community arts and organizing hub connected to the Go Green Community Fresh Market in Englewood. Alongside helping to create vibrancy and vitality on the important 63rd and Racine node and to drive interest in and traffic to the Market, the Plaza will host artistic performances, health workshops, vendor pop-ups, community forums, cooking demonstrations, and be a space for community cook-outs, art projects and open-mics. The Plaza will be the latest in the series of City of Chicago-supported POP Court venues opening up on once-vacant and abandoned land, and will mark an important milestone in the effort to draw attention and further investment into critical projects like the reopening of the Racine Green Line Station and the Granville T. Woods Regenerator project on the same intersection. The Plaza commemorates the legacy of the griot--the West African storytellers revered for preserving the legacy of their communities--and pays tribute to the power of story to connect, inspire, and drive our collective efforts forward.
