✒️ Reclaiming Bhakti is an invitation to challenge dogma in devotion and reopen religious and spiritual spaces to rational thought, social justice, scientific inquiry and progressive imagination.
📝 Through the poetry and translations of Sant Tukaram and Sant Soyarabai, two remarkable voices of the Varkari Bhakti tradition, we revisit a spiritual movement that challenged the divisions of caste and gender and imagined a more egalitarian relationship between human beings and the divine. Their poetry reminds us that spiritual transformation cannot be separated from social transformation, and that devotion need not demand the surrender of reason, equality or dissent.
🎙️ Siblings, translators and performance poets, Chandrakant and Priyamwada Redican, bring together translations of these saint-poets and their own original work inspired by the Bhakti tradition. Through poetry, storytelling and personal reflections, they share their journey through literature and protest, exploring how the radical possibilities of Bhakti can speak to the struggles and questions of our times.
