The third annual Reasons (Not) to Vote Rally is right around the corner and we're ready to hear from you!This event is designed to engage our community with the reality that lots of folks are either choosing not to vote or are unable to vote due to structural barriers.
We believe that dialogue can help us uncover and understand why people feel or think voting doesn't matter, and build a bridge towards feeling empowered to vote! When folks are legally or structurally disenfranchised from voting, we can discuss policy or ordinance changes to pursue that could remediate the problem or abate it for others in the future.
We'll have a musical performance including protest songs by St. Rowan, local poetry readings, and of course voter registration!
Also, this will be the third year to vote on the "Worst issues in San Marcos". The first year housing was voted the worst issue, then last year the environment "won". Everyone will be given a raffle ticket at the door to cast their ballot, at the end of the night we'll tally everything up and draw - the winner gets a $30 HEB gift card (must be present to win).
Come out to talk to your neighbors about voting, however you might feel about it!
