Biographies:

Matthias Feile (cello) was born in Munich where he first began studying music. He spent a few years inspired by 'wanderlust' to pursue opportunities for further musical study and work in Salzburg, Hamburg and Berlin.

In 1984 he came to Britain where, much to his own surprise, he still finds himself more than 40 years later. During the second half of the Eighties and most of the Nineties he was Principal Cellist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra with whom he performed world-wide. Matthias was also internationally known as soloist, chamber musician and teacher.

More recently, his love of medicine came to the fore, and after qualifying from the University of East Anglia in 2010 and specialist training in Tayside and Fife, he was appointed as a consultant psychiatrist in Tayside in 2022.

Barbara Geller (violin) was born in Ayrshire and was awarded a scholarship to St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh aged 11, studying violin with Rosemary Ellison and piano with Richard Beauchamp.

She studied medicine at the University of Dundee during which time she was leader of the Dundee Symphony Orchestra, the University Symphony Orchestra, and the European Medical Student Orchestra.

She currently juggles a busy life with her young family, chamber music, a long-established duo partnership with pianist David Mowle, orchestral performances, and her work as a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Specialty Registrar in Tayside.

David Mowle (piano) retired from a long and happy career as a consultant neurosurgeon at NHS Tayside in 2020.

Throughout his medical career David has performed in solo, chamber, and concerto works. His principal music teacher was Pauline Peachey a noted pupil of the great English pianist Solomon. He has longstanding duo partnerships with his wife soprano Kathy White, and violinist Barbara Geller.

In a series of public lectures at the University of St Andrews, in amongst medical matters, he has given lecture-recitals on Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas and the music of Clara and Robert Schumann.

Kathleen White (Soprano) studied medicine at the University of Dundee, where she was a member of the university choir and Operatic society. She began her singing studies whilst a student and subsequently studied with Margaret Huntington, Deborah Catterall, Marilyn Joy Smith MBE and currently with Irene Drummond in Edinburgh. She is a consultant neurologist in Tayside and is married to David Mowle, who she met over a Schubert song as a student. She sings in the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and was the Treasurer of the College for the past 6 years.
