About this Event
William Patterson -- better known as DJ Turbo -- is living a soulless existence after his glory days as resident spinner at a local ice rink have been snatched from him. As a far-right UK regime sweeps to power, they crack down on youth, culture, and - the final straw for Turbo - electronica. Incensed by a blanket ban on their beloved music, he launches a rave revolt. Resurrecting the illegal warehouse parties of the past becomes their means of resistance, a dance against the darkness.
Raveheart, in all its mayhem filled glory, is a cultural coup d'etat and cult-classic in the making, from one of the most electrifying young writers in Britain today.
Graeme Armstrong is best-known for hard-hitting, social themed storytelling. His Times bestselling and multi-award winning gang epic debut The Young Team (Picador, 2020) is currently in production as a BBC 1 drama. Graeme participates in extensive community work with youngsters in violence prevention. Raveheart's focus on electronica comes from a lifelong passion for the liminal stratosphere that comes into being on the dancefloor at raves.
Tice Cin is an interdisiplinary artist from north London. Her work has been published in Extra Teeth and Bath Magg, and has been commissioned by organisations like St Paul's Cathedral and Edinburgh International Book Festival. Tice was named one of the Complex Magazine's best music journalists of 2021, and has written for places such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. Her debut novel Keeping the House was named one of the Guardian's Best Books of 2021, and her second novel Safe Spaces is publishing with Granta in September.
The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and book signing.
