About this Event
Welcome to Rancher-to-Rancher Ojai!
The Central Coast Soil Hub invites you to join the us at the RMR Ranch to connect with fellow ranchers and land managers, discuss challenges and opportunities of ranching, and engage in soil health and grazing management demonstrations. We'll focus our discussion on grazing management for ecosystem health and resiliency and get to showcase new technology such as Virtual Fence. Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and strategies, as well as successes and lessons learned. Bring your questions and curiosity.
We welcome participants from Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and neighboring counties.
Coffee, snacks, and water will be provided - please bring a resusable water bottle and a camp chair. We plan to be outside the whole day so plan accordingly.
After the event concludes, there will be an optional lunch from 1:00-2:00. This will be a great chance to get to know each other and discuss questions and lessons learned from earlier in the day. Please let us know on your registration form if you plan to attend this optional lunch.
This event is FREE, but registration is required.
About the Organizers
The Ventura County Resource Conservation District serves ranchers, farmers, and other land managers in the Ventura County, with a mission to protect and enhance natural resources through education, restoration, conservation, and collaboration with local stakeholders. Together with our partners at the Upper Salinas-Las Tablas RCD (serving inland/northern SLO County), the Coastal San Luis RCD (serving coastal/southern SLO County), and the Cachuma RCD (serving Santa Barbara County), we form the Central Coast Soil Hub. This regional partnership is dedicated to supporting the management and stewardship goals of Central Coast ranchers and farmers by providing financial assistance and technical guidance.
The RMR Ranch located in Ojai, uses holistic regenerative techniques to improve ecosystem health while recycling nutrients back to the soil. The entire property is Certified Organic. Sheep, goats, horses and Certified Organic egg-laying hens are rotationally grazed throughout the ranch, reducing wildfire fuel, all the while adding fertility to the soil. There is also 30 acres on which they grow small grains. Heritage and Heirloom varieties of wheat, corn, rye, sunflowers, peas, beans and much more. All planted without the use of fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Relying mostly upon well timed grazing with our livestock and occasional minimal tillage techniques to prepare the land for sowing and for W**d control.
