Join us for the first PTA Speaker Series event on Monday, November 9! Please RSVP - link at the bottom! We are so pleased to announce the first PTA Speaker Series event will be held during our usual PTA meeting time on Monday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the WES cafeteria. This is a free event and childcare will be provided by CMS student volunteers.
In this talk, you will learn what current research tells us about how screens, digital media, and constant connectivity are shaping children’s mental health, attention, sleep, dopamine-driven motivation, and social development. We’ll explore what may be getting lost in an increasingly digital childhood — and, importantly, what parents can realistically do, both individually and as a community, to support healthier development for children and adolescents.
About Amanda Garratt
Amanda Garratt, LCSW-C is a licensed clinical social worker, mother of two school-aged children, and co-founder of Catonsville Unplugged. In her clinical work and in her own family life, she has become increasingly concerned about the impact of smartphones and social media on children’s emotional wellbeing. Rather than framing this as a problem parents must solve alone, she is interested in how communities can work together to create healthier norms around technology and childhood.
This event is free. We are requesting RSVPs through Givebacks to get an accurate headcount and make sure we have enough seating and childcare volunteers. Please click the link below to let us know you're coming.
