About this Event
Whether you're developing new hardware, a breakthrough material, a medical technology or AI software, raising funds is one of the biggest steps in building a company. This session will give you an investor's view of how it works.
Thomas Investment Manager from Northern Gritstone, which invests in university spin-outs and deep tech start-ups across the North of England, will walk through what investors look for, how a fundraise runs from first meeting to money in the bank, and how to give yourself the best chance of success.
The session is open to founders, researchers, students and anyone thinking about starting or growing a tech company, at any stage.
The session will cover:
- What investors look for in a team, a technology and a market
- How the fundraising process works, from first pitch through due diligence, term sheet and completion
- How much to raise, when to raise it and how to tie it to the milestones that matter
- The different sources of funding available, including grants, angels, EIS and venture capital
- Common mistakes founders make, and how to avoid them
- An open Q&A with an active investor
