About this Event
Learn a new craft. Make something beautiful. Take it home.
In this two-hour workshop, you'll learn the basics of raffia embroidery and create your own piece of tropical hoop art to display at home, a hibiscus flower or a monstera leaf, in your choice of vibrant colours.
No experience is needed at all. I'll guide you through every step, and all materials are provided. All you need to bring is the enthusiasm to try something new!
What you'll make
A finished raffia embroidery hoop art piece, ready to hang up or display. If you don't quite finish on the day, you'll have everything you need to complete it at home.
What's included
All materials and equipment are provided. There's nothing to buy or prepare in advance. There will also be some light refreshments to enjoy whilst you craft.
What to expect
It's a small group, up to six people, so there's plenty of time and space to ask questions and work at your own pace. The atmosphere is relaxed and creative. It's a lovely activity to do with a friend, and solo attendees are very welcome too.
As well as learning the craft, you'll learn a little bit of the story behind it too! Raffia embroidery is inspired by traditional Caribbean straw crafts, and I love sharing that story as part of the session.
About your teacher
I'm , a London-based fashion designer, textile artist, and author specialising in raffia embroidery. I developed my raffia embroidery technique while designing my graduate collection, inspired by the Windrush Generation and Caribbean heritage. One of the outfits from my graduate collection was acquired by the London Museum in 2021, and a piece from the collection is on display in an exhibition at The House of European History in Brussels.
Since graduating, I've taught workshops at the V&A, the Imperial War Museum, and Somerset House, and published my first book, , in 2026.
Beyond raffia embroidery, I also design and create a range of products like greeting cards and accessories, all with a touch of Caribbean inspiration. You can find more of my work on my website.
Who this is for
This workshop is perfect for complete beginners, no embroidery experience is needed. Great for a creative afternoon with a friend, a solo outing, or something a little different to do in London.
Suitable for children?
Raffia embroidery is recommended for children aged twelve and over, though younger children can absolutely take part. At past workshops I've taught at museums like the Imperial War Museum, I've had children as young as seven pick it up and really enjoy it with a little adult help.
All participants under eighteen must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Please note: photography and filming may take place during the workshop for promotional purposes. If you'd prefer not to be photographed, just let me know on the day.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
You may cancel your registration up to seven days before the workshop start date for a full refund.
Cancellations made within seven days of the workshop are non-refundable. This is necessary to ensure the workshop can go ahead for all participants.
If you are unable to attend, you are welcome to transfer your place to another person. Please send us their name and email address at least twenty-four hours before the workshop.
In the event that we need to cancel a workshop, we will give as much notice as possible. You will receive a full refund or the option to transfer to another date. Please note that we are unable to take responsibility for any travel or other related costs.
