A barn owl meets your gaze with a presence that feels both peaceful and mysterious. In Quiet Knowing, we’ll use loose brushwork and layered color to capture that watchful stillness without getting caught up in every feather and detail.Santa Fe artists Laura Tarnoff and Mickey Bond will guide you step by step as you build the owl with layers of soft whites, warm ochres, earthy browns, and subtle touches of blue and green. You’ll learn how to simplify the owl’s distinctive shapes, create expressive eyes, and use loose brushwork, visible marks, and layered color to suggest feathers without painting every detail.
The softly abstract background gives you plenty of room to play with color and make the painting your own.
This class is less about creating a perfectly realistic owl and more about capturing its presence, character, and quiet intensity.
No experience needed. We provide all the materials and guidance; feel free to bring your favorite beverage and snacks.
Join us for a Sunday afternoon of expressive painting as you create your own interpretation of this striking barn owl.
