Have questions you've always wanted to ask but weren't sure how to ask respectfully? You're not alone!About this Event
Join us at Healthy Minds Cooperative for an interactive group discussion designed for allies who want to better understand and support the transgender people in their lives. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, sibling, partner, friend, educator, healthcare provider, or simply someone who wants to learn, this event offers a safe, welcoming space for honest conversation.
Many people worry about asking the "wrong" question or don't want to unintentionally offend someone they care about. This event is designed to remove that barrier by creating an environment where respectful curiosity is encouraged and everyone can learn together. We'll explore common questions about gender identity, language, transitioning, allyship, and how to better support the people you care about.
Maybe you've wondered:
- What's the difference between sex, gender, and gender identity?
- What does "non-binary" mean?
- Why are pronouns important?
- How can I support my trans child, friend, or family member?
- Is it okay to ask someone about their transition?
- What if I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing?
This is your opportunity to ask the questions you've always wondered about but may have been hesitant to ask. No question is "too basic" when it's asked with genuine curiosity and respect.
The session will be facilitated by Marisa (he/they), Community Outreach Coordinator with Healthy Minds Cooperative. Marisa is a transmasculine and non-binary community member who is choosing to share their lived experience and answer questions openly. While no one person can speak for every trans person's experience, this event offers an honest, personal perspective alongside information that can help build understanding and empathy.
This is a space built on respect, curiosity, and kindness. Participants are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, listen with an open mind, and engage in meaningful dialogue. This is not a debate about transgender identities. Instead, it's an opportunity to build understanding, reduce misconceptions, and help create more supportive communities for transgender and gender-diverse people.
Whether you're supporting a loved one who's recently come out, trying to better understand your child, or just looking to learn something new, you're welcome to join us.
No question asked in good faith is too big or small. Respect is the only requirement.
