Kasey's Queerly Yours Offering:
Hey! I'm Kasey (she/they). I'm queer and neurodivergent, and I've worked in gender-based violence for over a decade as a counsellor, advocate, researcher and public educator. I love spending time with community and talking about the ways we write our own scripts and traditions as queer folks.
We're always being told to "be our authentic selves," but that's not so simple when being yourself hasn't always felt safe. We'll be decorating boxes together. The outside is how we show up to the world, the inside is how we feel, and then we'll each tuck a little treasure inside. We'll chat about masking, survival, and what it looks like to choose who gets to see inside.
A lot of us learned to follow a script to stay safe. Queer folks, neurodivergent folks and survivors know this really well. This is a space to honor those parts of ourselves, and think about how we can create safety in our communities and within ourselves.
Everyone gets a box to decorate. The outside is how you show up to the world, the inside is how you actually feel, and then you put a little treasure in it. It's about how "just be yourself" isn't that simple when we've experienced harm, are queer or neurodivergent and being yourself hasn't always been safe.
