About this Event

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, the three practical steps taught during the training. In this two-hour session, delivered by Colm Farrell, Founder & CEO of Stamp Out Suicide, participants receive a calm and supportive introduction to recognising when someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. The focus is practical: you learn to spot early warning signs, understand what they may indicate, and feel more confident responding rather than freezing or stepping back.
The session moves at an inclusive, steady pace, blending short explanations with real-world examples. You practise how to start a conversation with someone in distress, listen without judgement, and ask direct but compassionate questions. You also learn how to encourage someone to seek help and how to connect them with appropriate professional or emergency support. QPR is designed to give ordinary people the confidence and skills to recognise a possible crisis, begin a potentially lifesaving conversation, and help someone reach suitable support.
Participants often say they leave with a clear, usable skill set. QPR is not counselling - it is a straightforward, lifesaving intervention anyone can learn. Everyone completing the course receives a one-year QPR Gatekeeper certificate from the QPR Institute.
