𝘘𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘴 is a collaborative exhibition by jewellery designer Nadège Cassar and artist Alfie Gatt, developed over the course of the past year.Nadège and Alfie first met around 25 years ago while studying at the MCAST Institute of Art and Design. Their paths later developed through their own individual creative practices, and 𝘘𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘴 brings them together again through a shared exploration of Maltese proverbs.
Inspired by sayings passed down through generations, each work transforms a familiar, and sometimes not so familiar, 𝘲𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘪 into a contemporary visual narrative. Handcrafted jewellery is combined with painting and sculptural compositions, bringing the two artistic disciplines together as integral parts of each work.
Through symbolism and personal interpretation, 𝘘𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘴 celebrates Malta’s language, traditions and cultural memory while reimagining them through a contemporary artistic perspective.
The 𝘘𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘴 exhibition will run from 25th September to 16th October and will coincide with Notte Bianca. The project is supported by the Malta Crafts Foundation.
A selection of works from 𝘘𝘢𝘸𝘭 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘣𝘶𝘴 will also be on display as part of DesignMT at the Madonna tal-Pilar Chapel, from 28th September to 3rd October.
