ENCOURAGEMENTS FOR ALL
* Dress up! Whatever that means for you, for the special Fall Formal; but still being able to boogie for 3+ hours.
* Bring dancing shoes, whatever is comfortable for you (though smoother, softer soles are best)! If you prefer to dance bare foot on this smooth Oak floor, so be it.
* Participate in the workshop preceding the social dance, as it 1) warms up our dancer bodies and minds, 2) connects us with multiple other dancers and as a cohesive, collective whole, and 3) gives us new vocabulary for more creative and attuned dances. This is how our dance scene continues to root and blossom!
* FIRST TIME AT A PULSE EVENT? Please attend the class, but at least arrive no later than 8pm to attend the brief and important welcome orientation for the night ahead.

Pre-dance class: "[TBA]"
About the workshop facilitator:
Justin Riley is an internationally celebrated dance instructor with over two decades of dance training and teaching across the globe. He has explored and mastered a diverse range of dance styles in over 30 countries, bringing a nuanced and international flair to each class, DJ set, and performance.
Justin's passion for Blues and Fusion dance began in 2004 and has since led him to become a world-renowned instructor, community organizer, and founding member of the Fusion dance community. His classes are distinguished by their innovative classroom pedagogy, centered around Blues-based partnership, and a core emphasis on personal expression.
As an educator, Justin offers his students a complex understanding of body mechanics, enabling them to explore new avenues of movement and self-expression. He incorporates imagery and kinesthetic techniques adapted from leading methods such as Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, and the Franklin Method, enhancing his students' dynamic understanding of movement both on and off the dance floor.
In addition to his instructional expertise, Justin is also the founder and main organizer of Recess Productions and is considered one of the driving forces behind the growth of the international Fusion community. He has placed in prestigious events such as Blues Shout, Mile High Blues, and Emerald City Blues and continues to commit himself to the progress of partnered dancing as a living, growing, and ever-evolving cultural art form.

Introducing our music curators for the night...
Kenny Smestad (Santa Rosa, CA) is a long time Fusion dancer, grooving to a wide mix of music throughout the years. With a rich collection of classic fusion tracks and some of the latest R&B dance hits, rhythm plays a key role with song selection. He enjoys providing dancers with tunes that offer creativity and fun to encourage them to move across the floor. Currently he’s lured by the sounds of Afro R&B, Latin rhythms, and alluring handpan frequencies”
The Pulse and The Poet (Bay Area) are an Acoustic Neo-Soul, Folk, Hip Hop duo featuring Mastah Lock and Mama Crow
Chrissy Mehnert (Nevada City, CA) has been dancing for her whole life. At age 4, she began her dance study, training for performance and competition by age 8 with In The Spotlight Dance Company, which led her to several early professional opportunities. After graduating high school, her blossoming love of choreography brought her to co-create Pulse DanceProject, NYU’s first student-produced dance performance group. In 2012, she took her first salsa class in the Bay Area, and soon thereafter found blues fusion. Partner dance intimidated, allured and in time deeply transformed Chrissy’s being. Bringing her solo dance knowledge to the partner dance community, she teaches classes that are designed for beginners and advanced dancers alike, to bring more folks into this incredibly connective and transformational experience.
