The City of Marion and the Marion Fire Department are pleased to announce the completion of the new Public Safety Training Center, a major investment in first-responder emergency preparedness. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Noon at the Public Safety Training Center, 204 44th Street, Marion.Located on City-owned property near the Marion Public Works Facility, the $2.8 million training complex was developed to strengthen the training capabilities of local and regional emergency responders.
The center includes a four-story training tower, known as the DeVault Tower, designed for mid-rise and elevated rescues, victim searches, forcible entry and horizontal and vertical ventilation training. A two-story Class A burn structure provides realistic fire scenarios, allowing firefighters and emergency responders to practice essential firefighting tactics in a controlled training environment.
A combination of private and public investment made the project possible. Of the total $2.8 million project cost, $1.3 million came from a bequest established by former Marion volunteer firefighter Don DeVault and his wife, Ruth. The City of Marion contributed an additional $1.5 million to complete the project.
Don DeVault dedicated 50 years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Marion Fire Department.
Community members, media partners, regional emergency services providers and project supporters are invited to help recognize this milestone.
Parking is available at the Marion Public Works Facility, 202 44th Street, Marion.
