The Ascend Performance Materials nylon plant in Cantonment is the largest discharger in FL by far of Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) chemicals. Most of this is the annual injection underground of around 20 million lbs. (in the year 2022) of TRI chemicals. Healthy Gulf has requested this public hearing on the FL Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP's) draft underground injection control (UIC) permit for the facility. This hearing is hosted by FDEP and its purpose is to obtain public comment on the draft underground injection control permit. During this open house public meeting, representatives of both DEP and Ascend Performance Materials will be available to answer questions and provide information about operation of the Class I UIC wells. The meeting will be held at the Tryon Library, 1200 Langley Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504
Any interested person may submit written or oral comments on the draft permit. Written comments shall be submitted to DEP’s Aquifer Protection Program at 2600 Blair Stone Road, MS 3530, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-2400, which is the office processing this permit application. Written comments may also be submitted by e-mail to [email protected].
Persons wishing to enter oral comments into the record at the public meeting will be able to do so on an individual basis at the oral comment station. All comments received by Oct. 17, 2026, will be considered in formulation of DEP’s final decision regarding permit issuance.
