About this Event
Come join Marcie Buel; Family Support Specialist at Advocates for Recovery Colorado to learn why family support is a key ingredient to the FAMILY recovery journey. Marcie will be sharing the tapestry of experiences of her childhood story, and how those experiences created a desire to help. Marcie will describe how a desire to help transformed into her journey of becoming a family support specialist. Marcie believes that when you can support the family of the individual struggling with substance use or mental health challenges you get greater outcomes for recovery, you gain new skills and understanding of how to use the skills you already possess and you are able to take better care of yourself!

A little about Marcie Buel:
Marcie has navigated through her own lived experience and now holds the belief that the various types of direct help available to anyone struggling with substance abuse or mental health issues can also be applied to the other affected individuals – family, friends, partners. Marcie believes that there are multiple ways to provide assistance to people who might be on the periphery of the affected individual, and those people deserve help just as much. She knows that if the family is supported, it results in greater outcomes in recovery, improved life skills, and an overall brighter possible outcome for both the affected person and the family and friends around them.
The negative effects of active addiction or mental health struggles can radiate out from the individual and affect others in their life. Marcie believes that, fortunately, providing assistance to the family also works the same way, radiating outward and benefitting not just the single individual, but others who we understand can also be affected and sometimes overlooked.
