PROV/DOC

PROV/DOC is a documentary film festival organized by the Brown Political Review. Highlighting student, faculty, and community filmmakers, PROV/DOC was created to start conversations about politics, culture and the broader Providence community, and promote the importance of collaborative storytelling in a divided world.

Info: PICK 'EM UP!, a D.I.Y. mini-doc, explores queerness and moshing in the punk community of Providence, Rhode Island. How can one possibly describe something so impactful, so personal, and yet so deeply communal? Can punk be queer? Is queerness expressed through moshing? Not only is this film a deep-dive into subculture, but it also stands as a love letter to the prominent, underground house venue called Al Dios No Conocido, and to the community of the Providence scene, which has been built over generations by punks who are queer, politically motivated, and diverse. Although gentrification and urbanization has long been erasing punk spaces and punk culture in Providence, this documentary aims to prove that queerness and punk did - and will continue to - exist. Long live Al Dios. Long live Providence punk.
