A highly practical learning event focused on applying for protection orders
About this Event

Protection Orders are an important safeguarding tool for protecting people at risk of harm, particularly in cases involving harmful practices, abuse, violence and exploitation. They can set clear legal boundaries around the behaviour of someone who may pose a risk or who has caused actual harm, helping professionals take action, manage risk and keep victims and survivors safe.

This conference brings together professionals from local authorities, police, health, education, legal services and specialist VAWG services to build confidence and strengthen practice around the use of Protection Orders.

The conference will focus particularly on Female Genital Mutilation Protection Orders (FGMPOs) and Forced Marriage Protection Orders (FMPOs), while also looking at other relevant orders to harmful practices.

The sessions will cover the full journey of a Protection Order: when one should be considered, how to assess risk and gather evidence, how to make a strong application, what happens once an order is granted, and how to respond to breaches.

Through expert input, case studies and an interactive workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore what good practice looks like in real situations and how different agencies can work together to reduce risk and prevent harm.

The overall aim is to strengthen professional knowledge, confidence and collaboration, so that Protection Orders are used appropriately, effectively and as part of a wider safeguarding response.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the conference participants will have increased confidence in:

  • Identifying when a Protection Order should be considered.
  • Assessing risk and determine proportionality.
  • Preparing and supporting robust applications.
  • Understanding court processes and legal thresholds.
  • Effectively managing orders once granted.
  • Responding appropriately to breaches.
  • Improving multi-agency coordination to reduce risk and prevent harm.

Note: Participants are asked to bring their laptops for use in interactive activities
