The next presentation of the Cobb County Genealogical Society is about "Protecting Cobb County's Abandoned Cemeteries" with Cobb County Cemetery Preservation Commission members Jimi Richards and Joe Peluso. Founded in 1990, the Cobb County Cemetery Preservation Commission is a volunteer group within the Cobb County Government that works to protect and preserve cemeteries across the area. Members are appointed by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. The group was created to provide a uniform procedure for the identification, preservation, protection, and maintenance of cemeteries, graveyards, and burial grounds. The unprecedented growth and development of Cobb County has caused the loss of many old cemeteries. During this presentation, learn about how the group protects abandoned cemeteries, the work they do to document these burials, and how they are sharing the stories of forgotten community members.
It will take place on October 27 at 7:00 PM at Marietta's First Presbyterian Church (189 Church Street). It is free and open to the public.
Members of the Cobb County Genealogical Society will be able to join via Zoom as well.
