Learn how professional framing choices can elevate and protect your artwork during this demonstration with artist and experienced custom framer Joelle Douthit.Joelle will walk through professional-quality framing techniques suitable for galleries and juried shows, drawing from six years of custom framing experience at Hartung Gallery in Portsmouth.
The demonstration will cover conservation-minded framing, material quality, matboard and frame selection, and common materials or techniques artists should avoid. Joelle will also discuss framing considerations for canvases, watercolors, soft pastels, and other flat artwork.
Attendees will see safe methods for attaching artwork and watch at least one piece framed from beginning to end. Hartung Gallery is providing matboard and frame samples for the demonstration.
This is a demonstration only rather than a hands-on workshop. It is especially useful for working artists, but anyone interested in improving their DIY framing skills is welcome.
