PRIFF 2026: Echoes of What Remains

Six films on what lingers after loss: first desire, farewells, a lost twin, a ghostly taxi ride and a daughter searching for the truth.
About this Event

Echoes of What Remains brings together six films about the traces people and moments leave behind. In 1981 suburban Long Island, 14 year old Douglas receives a birthday surprise that changes everything, in a psychedelic coming of age story about the beauty and terror of teenage desire. Kobika drifts between memory and abstraction, a meditation on embodiment and loss where healing begins in the act of remembering. On a sunny morning, a woman frames an inevitable farewell with photographs and a pair of sunglasses. A semi autobiographical drama follows identical twins Omar and Wesam, and the emotional toll of living on after one of them dies. In Southern China, taxi driver Chen Hai picks up two strange passengers and realises his life has quietly reset, leaving him to choose between the afterlife and a ghostly existence. And from Oscar nominated filmmaker Waad Al-Kateab, co-directed by Wafa Mustafa, comes Wafa's search for the truth about her father, forcibly disappeared by the Assad regime in 2013.
