About this Event
About the Performance
How much of ourselves do we silence to be accepted?
“Silence is golden.”
“Listen to your elders.”
“You’ll understand when you’re older.”
Some words stay with us longer than we realise.
Growing up, we hear these phrases, learn these habits, and gradually absorb unspoken rules about how to behave, when to speak, and when to remain silent.
PRICE OF SILENCE is a physically driven contemporary dance duet by London-based performance collective C(P)LAY, exploring power, control, obedience and resistance through the relationship between two bodies.
Rooted in East Asian cultural contexts and personal experiences, the work examines how silence can become a learned behaviour – shaped by family expectations, social structures and the relationships that influence us.
Through intense physical movement, repetition and shifting power dynamics, two performers negotiate the boundaries between compliance and resistance, vulnerability and control.
Rather than offering easy answers, PRICE OF SILENCE invites audiences to question the rules they have inherited and the things they have learned not to say.
Post-Show Discussion & Audience Feedback
The performance will be followed by a post-show discussion and audience feedback session.
We invite you to stay, share your reflections and take part in an open conversation with the artists. We look forward to hearing your perspectives and exploring how the conversations around this work might continue beyond the performance.
About C(P)LAY
C(P)LAY (pronounced “clay”) is a London-based contemporary performance collective founded by Hong Kong artist Ka Ki Christina Lai and Taiwanese artist Ying Yen Wang.
Working across choreography, performance and movement research, their practice explores human behaviour and social dynamics through duet structures, structured improvisation and physically driven movement.
Join us for an evening of contemporary dance, physical intensity and conversations that may stay with you long after the performance.
