About this Event
The Consul General for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Simone Young, is proud to announce a special reception honouring pioneering Trinidad and Tobago–born filmmaker Horace Ové.
Co-hosted with Trinidad and Tobago filmmaker Frances-Anne Solomon, the reception celebrates the 50th anniversary of Ové’s landmark film PRESSURE.
Released in 1976, Pressure was the first feature film by a Black filmmaker to receive a theatrical release in the United Kingdom. It remains one of the defining works of Black British cinema — a powerful portrait of a Caribbean family navigating identity, racism and generational change in 1970s London.
The reception is in support of TIFF Cinematheque’s special presentation of Pressure and forms part of the Windrush International Caribbean Film Festival (WICFF) partnership with TIFF Cinematheque.
IMPORTANT — Advance RSVP is required for the reception. Capacity is limited and we cannot accommodate walk-ins at the door.
