The Forum on Hawai'i's Military and Warrior Past is sponsoring the following presentation, and it invites all of our members to attend. RSVP requested: [email protected]
Description
Drawing on historical accounts and ongoing research into ancient Hawaiian warfare, this presentation explores what the available evidence can tell us about how Hawaiian commanders exercised authority, organized and controlled their forces and made decisions. Using the Battle of Mokuʻōhai as a case study, it examines the challenges of reconstructing a distinctly Hawaiian art of command, distinguishing historical evidence from interpretation and considering how these findings might inform new approaches to studying and teaching Hawaiian military history.
Biography
Jerry Hall is a retired U.S. Army Colonel whose final twenty years of military service focused on modeling and simulation, wargaming and exercise planning throughout the Indo-Pacific region. He currently serves as a senior wargaming and simulation consultant supporting U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM) J7. He is the founder of Art of Command™, an educational initiative dedicated to helping people think, decide and lead under uncertainty through military history, historical research, wargaming and command learning. Jerry holds degrees in History, Emergency and Disaster Management, and National Security Strategy. He has designed numerous educational and analytical wargames, including published works examining China's Belt and Road Initiative, Arctic security, and strategic competition in the South Pacific. His current research focuses on reconstructing indigenous Hawaiian command philosophy, leadership and decision-making from primary historical sources as the foundation for historically grounded Command Learning Exercises and future educational tools.
