rom the earliest peoples to the present-day, the ability to turn natural materials from the world around us into functional and aesthetic objects is part of what makes us human.In this workshop we will explore the skill of bone and antler carving. Participants will have the opportunity to make either needles, a hairpin or a leatherworking awl.
We will tackle topics such as form vs function, the artistic styles of prehistoric and historic Scotland and how to design your pieces.
The session will be guided by Education Team Lead Will Attard, drawing on experience as an archaeologist and ancient skills expert, and incorporating research from across Scotland.
The workshop will run from 10:30 til 15:30, with a break for lunch from around 12:15-13:00. It will be held in Kilmartin Museum’s dedicated Learning Centre.
