†World premiere commissioned by the Kayden Music Commissioning Program
Nico Olarte-Hayes, Juilliard faculty, alum, and in-demand conductor and cellist, leads the Pre-College String Orchestra in a world premiere by the versatile Brazilian composer Clarice Assad. A pianist, composer, and singer from Rio de Janeiro, Assad channels the melting pot of Brazilian cultural influences into her music that moves between classical, jazz, and global music.
The orchestra, featuring musicians ages 8 to 18, also performs Respighi’s third suite from Ancient Airs and Dances, which reimagines Italian Baroque lute tunes through modern orchestration. Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings exudes sunny joy, painting idyllic scenes of Bohemia.
Commission is generously supported by the Kayden Music Commissioning Program.
