Sometimes we can get lost in the technical aspects of writing and lose track of the thing that makes writing powerful to begin with. When your audience is reading, they're not thinking about sentence structure or word choice. They just want a raw experience where they get the feeling that somewhere, on the the other side of the page, there was a person who could touch the hidden thing inside of them that they're desperate to have seen.
We do this through honesty. Not just by writing true things. And not necessarily with heavy emotion in the text itself, although sometimes. The really necessary part is to have gotten honest with yourself. This involves courage and acceptance. The ability to to look at the whole without shying away from the blemishes, without diminishing the light.
