In John 5, after seeing a man who had been sick for decades, Jesus was moved with compassion and asked him: "Do you want to be well?"
- He didn't ask how long he'd been sick
- He didn't ask him what he had done to help himself
- He didn't even ask if he believed Jesus could do it
His only qualifier was desire.
