About this Event
Duke students are invited to join Mat Everhart, M.B.A.’24, CEO of STADLER America LLC, to learn about circular economy principles and how STADLER’s work on engineering sorting systems for better materials recycling helps contribute to this vision. STADLER Anlagenbau GmbH Head of Process Engineering Bastian Küppers and Pellenc ST Marketing & Communication Director Laetitia Paveau will also join the discussion. If you're interested in circular economy career pathways, you won't want to miss this! Lunch will be provided.
What is a circular economy?
In our current economy, we take materials from the Earth, make products from them, and eventually throw them away as waste—the process is linear. In a circular economy, by contrast, we stop waste being produced in the first place and nature is regenerated.
In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. Sound familiar? You may practice principles from a circular economy already!
So, what will it take to transform our throwaway economy into one where waste is eliminated, resources are circulated, and nature is regenerated? These Power Lunch experts focus on this exact issue in their everyday work. RSVP to hear directly from them and get a chance to ask them about implementation, expectations, and the realities of the industry.
Open to Duke students from all degree programs.
A LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE, so please register only if you are committed to attending. If your plans change, please cancel your registration so someone else can take part.
Speaker Bios:
Mat Everhart, M.B.A.’24, founded and runs STADLER America LLC, the North American operation of a STADLER Anlagenbau GmbH, which designs and builds large-scale sorting systems for recycling and waste management facilities. He has spent nearly twenty years in the sector, including 9 at another German firm in the waste / recovery space (Vecoplan) before joining STADLER in 2016.
Bastian Küppers is head of process engineering at STADLER Anlagenbau GmbH. He has more than a decade of experience in mechanical waste processing, sorting plant design and optimization, sensor-based sorting, material flow monitoring and digital process development. His work combines industrial leadership with applied research, patent development, university teaching, and international project experience.
Laetitia Paveau is the marketing and communications director at Pellenc ST. An engineer by training, she has spent over 20 years driving innovation and transformation across multiple roles within the company. This extensive experience has given her a broad perspective on both technological transformation and environmental challenges. Further strengthened by an Executive MBA, she now focuses on business strategy, innovation leadership, and digital transformation, leveraging data as a strategic asset to improve performance and support the transition toward a circular economy.
