A little about me
I’mjust on eof the busy busy busy Bee's. I am formost a proud Mother and sometimes im teacher , medical herbalist , artist , dog walker and co-founder of Spectral Art's, a creative organisation exploring the connections between nature, health, art, and sustainability .
A lot of my work brings together plants, traditional knowledge, making and creative expression. I’m particularly interested in looking at things that we might normally overlook — weeds, natural fibres, our bodies, our relationship with the environment — and turning them into something imaginative, useful and thought-provoking.
Through Spectral Art, we’ve explored ideas around eco-fashion, natural materials and sustainable making, including fashion shows and creative builds. One of our more unusual projects was the Nettle Knicker puppet show .Nettle Knickers is an interactive puppet theatre show based on plant characters supported by educational workshops, and a fun educational animation to detail the history of the use of herbal medicine through time. The show uses folk law, fairy tales, myths and combines them with real active ingredients in the form of well known medicinal plants to bring to life a collection of herbal puppets which personify the dramatic charismatic appeal of the plant kingdom. How ever this is not about nettle knickers even thought she may come and visit.
For me, doing this pop up Halloween workshop with the Soap factory is really about making connections: between people and plants, children , creativity and science, the past and the future. Handing down to the next generation.
And that’s why working with the next generation is so important to me. I want young people to feel that they can be curious, inventive and imaginative — that sustainability doesn’t have to be dull, and that traditional knowledge can become the starting point for completely new ideas.
Today is another opportunity to explore those connections together: what nature can teach us, what we can make from it, and what we might pass on to the next generation.
