Portfolio Tasting with Peter Weygandt

Join us for the inaugural tasting of The Library Selection, showcasing a curated lineup from boutique wine importer Weygandt-Metzler.
About this Event

Weygandt-Metzler is a fitting place to start, because the mission of the Library Collection closely mirrors that of Weygandt-Metzler. Both are rooted in a shared commitment to sourcing distinctive, small-production wines that speak clearly to place and producer.

Since 1987, Peter Weygandt has been exploring the hidden corners of the wine world, discovering bottles of singular character in France, Austria, and beyond, and bringing them to an increasingly eager audience in the United States.

On May 14th, joined by Peter himself, we’ll be pouring a selection of wines from the Weygandt portfolio that reflect exactly what The Library Selection is about: rare, expressive bottles with a strong sense of origin, and stories worth sharing.

The nine wines will be served alongside a selection of locally sourced, seasonal bites by chef Jess Lalumiere.

Producers being featured will include:

Edmond Vatan, Sancerre

Coming from a single hectare of vines in the heart of Sancerre’s unofficial Grand Cru, Les Monts Damnés, this extremely rare wine has been described as “one of the world’s most sophisticated Sauvignon Blancs” (Rebecca Gibb, VM).

Two vintages of this rare bottling will be presented from magnum for the first time in Maine.

Weingut Franz Hirtzberger, Wachau

The Hirtzberger family has farmed this estate, whose origins date to the 13th century, for five generations. They attribute the expressiveness of their wines to exacting vineyard work and careful cultivation, with judicious pruning, intensive canopy management, strict yield control, and rigorous selection.

Philippe Chavy, Côte de Beaune

This small estate has enviable holdings in both Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. The parcels are planted to old vines, some dating back to the 1920s and ’30s. While much of the production was historically sold to négociants, nearly all is now bottled under the family label. We’re excited to present Philippe Chavy’s wines in Maine for the first time.

Philippe Chavy Bourgogne Chardonnay 2022

Philippe Chavy Meursault Les Narvaux 2022

Domaine Philippe Jouan, Côte de Nuits

An estate too small to be smothered by the wine press, producing what William Kelly has aptly called “resolutely old-fashioned Burgundies,” in quantities that keep those in the know eagerly anticipating each release.

Chapelle St. Théodoric, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

It would be unthinkable to present a Weygandt-Metzler portfolio tasting without Chapelle St. Théodoric. This is Peter’s personal project, created in collaboration with winemaker Baptiste Grangeon in a special corner of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The highlight here is the 2021 vintage, which has become a favorite in recent years. It’s a wine that expands the boundaries of what Châteauneuf-du-Pape can be.
