An immersive journey from darkness into light.
On the longest night of the year, something begins to awaken.
Enter a world where light breathes, sound moves through the body, and the boundaries between art and experience begin to dissolve.
Created by LED artist Janet Hansen and multidisciplinary performing artist Judy Berberian, PORTAL is a live, cinematic journey weaving sculptural LED installations with ethereal vocals, crystal singing bowls, resonant gongs, chimes, and layered atmospheric sound.
As darkness gives way to color, rhythm, and radiance, you're invited to explore the quiet beauty of letting go—and the possibility of beginning again.
This is not a traditional sound bath. It's an experience designed to be witnessed as deeply as it is felt.

The Experience
Set within Janet Hansen's Celebrating Light exhibition at Covet Art Gallery, PORTAL surrounds audiences with an evolving interplay of illuminated sculpture, original sound compositions, and live performance.
Judy's expressive voice moves between ethereal melodies, improvisation, and spoken word, while Janet's sculptural light installations pulse, breathe, and transform in dialogue with the music.
Together, they create a world that is at once technologically modern and deeply human.

Event Details
Schedule:
- 6:00-6:45pm: Guests arrive and explore the art show
- 7:00-8:00pm: PORTAL experience
- 8:15pm: Q&A with Janet and Judy
- 9:00pm: Evening ends
What to know: Space is limited to 50 guests. Please plan to arrive between 6:00 and 6:45pm, so you have time to see the exhibit and settle in before the performance begins. Light refreshments will be provided.
Seating: Choose whatever is most comfortable for you. Guests are welcome to sit or lie down on a yoga mat, or to sit in a chair. Comfortable gallery seating is available for anyone who would prefer it, and we are happy to set a seat aside for you. Just let us know when you arrive. You are also welcome to bring your own folding chair or yoga mat, and we will have a limited number of extra mats and cushions to share.
Weather: Parts of the venue are outdoors. Please dress warmly. Evenings can be cool, and blankets are welcome. If the weather is poor, we will consider a few options - 1) moving PORTAL indoors, where the experience may be slightly different and seating would be more limited, or 2) rescheduling for another night. We will email all ticket holders by 2pm on December 21 if there is a change. You will be given the option to transfer your ticket to another date, or to request a refund.
Light effects: PORTAL features color-changing light, and some of it responds directly to live sound, so the lighting may change quickly or unpredictably at times, including brief pulses or flashes. If you have photosensitive epilepsy or another light sensitivity, please consult your doctor before attending. You are welcome to sit farther from the art, or to close your eyes at any point during the experience.
