The Point of Jazz is a jazz collective led by graduates of the music department at University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. This week the house band consists of Kadin Yach (p) Jessie Crandall (b) and Colt Maichle (d). Every Thursday the group plays at Stone Arch Brewpub in Appleton Wisconsin from 7:30-9:30PM. They play a one hour set featuring that week’s guest artist, then open the floor for community members to join in on their respective instruments. This week‘s featured artist is the Lexie Lakmann
Born and raised in Lacrosse, WI, Lexie Lakmann discovered her passion for music at a young age. Immersed in the sounds of her parents teaching and performing music, it’s no surprise that she was singing professionally by the age of 14. During her time at UWSP Lexie studied classical voice with Dr. Matthew Markham, and jazz with Mathew Buchman and Dr. Timothy Buchholz. She received two Downbeat Student Music Awards (2020, 2021) and added some notable performance experiences to her resume, including the Riverfront Jazz Festival, Central/North-Central ACDA Conference, and the Jazz Coterie series, to name a few.
