Visit with AcA's Arts in Education Coordinator, Erin Gray, to learn all the details about Poetry Out Loud, a dynamic poetry recitation competition from National Endowment for the Arts. Poetry Out Loud is designed for any high school level student. Hosting a competition is easy! All materials are provided and Acadiana Center for the Arts will help with any questions.
All types of groups are encouraged to participate! From schools and homeschool groups to after hours clubs, anyone at the high school level is eligible.
Leading up to winter break, schools or groups are invited to hold group and school wide competitions, with students advancing to a regional competition on January 27, 2027 at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center. Non-school organizations, such as after school clubs, libraries, or nonprofit organizations, are also invited to participate in Poetry Out Loud. Students may only compete in one stream; either with their school or an organization.
The winner and runner-up of the regional competition will advance to compete at the state competition. State champions will advance to the national finals in Washington, DC, April 27-28, 2027, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. More information about the state and national finals will be announced.
