Poetry Night is hosted and co-compèred by Dee Majek and Alex Murdock, alongside a line-up of guest poets, including Maia Watkins and Saran Green, for an inspiring Black History Month evening of poetry, spoken word and conversation.
The readers will share powerful original work exploring themes such as Black history, identity, heritage, resilience, belonging, community and contemporary lived experience.
More than a series of performances, this is an opportunity to listen, reflect and take part. Following each reading, Dee and Alex will invite audience questions and conversation, creating a shared space to explore the stories and themes that the work raises.

Dee Majek is a Nigerian-British poet, spoken-word artist, and cultural commentator based in London. He has served as Streatham Festival Poet for several years and has performed widely across the UK. He is the author of 3000 Miles from Home: Stories My Father and Mother Never Told Me, a poetic journey between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Alex Murdock, performing under the moniker MADPO3T, is an independent author, spoken word artist, and the Podcast creator. Known for his intense, high-frequency deep dives into the human condition, his work seamlessly bridges the raw reality of contemporary lyrical poetry with profound philosophical storytelling.
Maia Watkins is an actress, poet, author and reiki/sound practitioner from West London. Her new poetry collection - The Dressing Gown Poet: Life. Loss. Love is now out! Maia won best female spoken word poet 2024 for the Wordplay and Flow Awards. She has also performed for Sofar Sounds London and Kingston Night Market in Jamaica doing poetry. Her poetry book can also be found in the National Library of Jamaica.
Saran Green has been described as a sizzling and passionate performance poet — Poetry’s Ms Charisma, delighting audiences with her saucy slices of Caribbean life. In 2005 she was crowned the Farrago International Slam Champion, a turning point that solidified her presence on the London spoken word circuit.
