James Domestic
James Domestic is back at HotBox, and this time he he’s bringing his well-received one hour Poetry for People Who Think They Don’t Like Poetry! show, as performed at Colchester Summer Fringe Festival. There are visuals! There is audience participation! There are jokes! and there are lots of poems…and some of them are very funny indeed!
With several books to his name, he’s supported legendary wordsmiths such as Henry Normal, Luke Wright, Attila the Stockbroker, Andy Riley, and Mark Grist. He’s also been on BBC Breakfast telly!
“James Domestic is a powerhouse of performance poetry” (Henry Normal, writer, poet and TV and Film producer)
“Somewhere between stand-up comedy and a poetry reading…as much a cutting satirist as he is a phenomenal poet” (Noah Pantano, Fringe Review)
Laura Bradley
Laura Bradley is a poet, actor, and screenwriter. Her one-woman play, Is Our Time Up Yet? won the People’s Choice Award at the Essex Short and Sweet festival in 2024. Laura is exceptionally funny - she’s supported TV comedy-writing legend, Andy Riley, and punk poet, James Domestic, and you can often find her on Essex’s stand-up comedy circuit.
Lorna Mackinnon
Colchester’s Lorna Mackinnon (she/her) is co-host of chaos at the very glittery Poetry’s a Drag workshop and open mic night. Her work has been called everything from “a poor man’s pro” to “annoyingly good, actually” – both of which she’s happy to take as a compliment. Her poetry has been published by Earth Island Books and has seen her headline poetry nights, appear at literary festivals, and grace the airwaves of BBC radio.
Emberhearted
Ethan Stewart A.K.A. Emberhearted is part Lord Byron, part Pete Wentz, and all autism. A humanoid anxiety attack performing pop punk poetry to feed the fire in their soul and kindle a spark in yours.
Michael Bamber
New to the scene, the evening’s compère, Michael Bamber has hit the ground running with his unique voice and rabble-rousing hosting skills. He’s also a funny, sensitive and thoughtful poet who uses first person present tense to create relatable narratives from his life. Sometimes known as Big Mike, he will make you smile and unlock some memories to boot!
