Día de Muertos is a time to remember and celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us. The Maxwell Museum will be hosting a community ofrenda exhibition from October 22 to the 30th. Helps us fill our altar with memories and love. Everyone is welcome to contribute! You are welcome to bring photos, flowers, food, and toys.
This year, our community altar will honor the life of Anita Osuna Carr, the first Hispanic woman faculty at the University of New Mexico. She taught Spanish and French at the University of New Mexico from 1924-1933.
On October 29, come be part a free public event in which everyone is welcome. It will feature an opening blessing ceremony and then learn directly from an expert curandero Adrián Koskakoatl, from Mexico City, who will deliver a talk in English, and stay for the subsequent celebration with traditional food and live music from La Familia Gadiel!
This event is organized by the UNM Center for Southwest Research & Special Collections and the UNM Curanderismo Program at the Chicana & Chicano Studies Department, with the co-sponsorship of the UNM Maxwell Museum of Anthropology.
