School Counselors and other school-based professionals use a variety of approaches to work with students. Participants will learn more about how play therapy can be utilized in the school environment and explore group-based play therapy and experiential activities.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify characteristics of school-based play therapy, including group play therapy.
- Explain to stakeholders how group play therapy can positively impact student success.
- Evaluate student needs and apply one of the play therapy experiential group interventions that is presented.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual presentation. Participants must be visible (video on) throughout the presentation and will be awarded 3 LIVE WEBINAR CE upon successful completion of a post test. This workshop meets APT's definition of "Live Webinar."
FAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 02-115. FAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph (screenshot), video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote FAPT.
FAPT is approved by the Florida Department of Health under FL Statute 491 to offer continuing education for Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors. Provider Number BAP-50-10520 expires 03/31/2025. FAPT is approved by the Florida Department of Health under FL Statute 490 to offer continuing education for Psychologists. Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than January 15, 2025. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested.
About our presenter: Ann Tilman, EdD, School-Based Registered Play Therapist™ - has been an educator for more than twenty years as a classroom teacher, school counselor, and counselor educator. She earned her master’s in mental health counseling, completed all school counseling coursework, and then worked as a school counselor in Florida. During that time, she earned a graduate certificate in play therapy and her doctorate in counselor education and supervision and later became a counselor educator at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Tilman is a certified school counselor in Florida, a School Based-Registered Play Therapist™ (SB-RPT™), and a certified AutPlay® provider. As a counselor educator, she has been recognized by her university with the Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2020-2021) for teaching and the Team Service Excellence Award (2021-2022) for service relating to autism. She has taught group counseling courses since 2008, has developed and taught play therapy courses in two state universities. Dr. Tilman works closely with the Association for Play Therapy to advocate for school counselors’ use of play and was awarded the APT President’s Award at the 2024 APT Conference.
