Plant to Paper: Papermaking and Ecological Stewardship
Sunday, October 18
2:00 PM-6:00 PM (drop-in welcome)
Location: At the painted shipping containers along the Greenway, 133 Aleppo St, Providence, RI 02909. Parking available on the street or at Riverside Park , Aleppo St, Providence, RI 02909, (.25 miles away)
DESCRIPTION:
In this workshop, we will be creating paper with invasive plant material removed from the Woonasquatucket River greenway to make space for native plant restoration. Papermaking is a communal labor, and this workshop will bring people together to deepen relationships to plants, craft, and each other. Instead of seeing these invasive plants as problems or resources to exploit, we will explore how acts of use can become forms of care, opportunities to deepen understanding, and more thoughtful ways of managing them. Expect plant walks in which we’ll share histories of use and migration, plant removal and harvesting, and hands-on processing of the plants for paper-making.
What to bring: Wear long pants and close toed shoes, and bring a water bottle. We will provide tools, gloves, and materials.
ATTRIBUTION:
This project was made possible in part through support from the Interlace Grant Fund, a regranting partner of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, through an appropriation by the Rhode Island General Assembly, a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and private funders.
ACCESSIBILITY:
There will be bilingual staff present, so this workshop can be accessible in both English and Spanish. The nearest accessible bathroom is about .25 miles away at 90 Salmon St (private access). Let us know when you register if you have any accessibility needs so we can accomodate them.

De Planta Hasta Papel: Fabricando Papel y el Cuidado Ecológico
Domingo, 18 de octubre
2:00 PM-6:00 PM (bienvenida)
