About this Event
Ever wondered how a pine cone, foraged plants and roots, or food scraps can be transformed into professional and lightfast watercolor paints?
In this course, we’ll explore the practical production and use of plant-based pigments, as well as the cultural and historical significance of color and plants.
This is a 1-day studio workshop, we dive straight into the rich alchemy of botanical color.
What we’ll create together in one immersive day:
Botanical inks & pH shifts: Extract botanical inks from home grown flowers and local plants from Berlin and experiment with natural modifiers to watch colors shift in real time on paper.
Extraction & Laking: Coax vibrant liquid dye from local flora, then perform the chemical transformation that turns liquid into solid lake pigments.
Grinding & Mulling: Process dried pigments into powder, then mull them with natural binders to pour your own watercolor pans.
Creative intuitive painting: As a group, you’ll create a wide range of watercolors to paint on paper. At the end of the workshop, you can fill these into small bowls and take them home.
