About this Event
Plant a Tree. Give Back. Strengthen Our Community.
Join the Newark Green Team and Newark Tree Volunteers on Saturday, November 14, for a special day of environmental action and community giving!
As part of the Newark Tree Canopy Initiative, we're bringing neighbors and volunteers together to plant trees in Newark's North Ward while collecting nonperishable food donations to support local families and neighbors in need.
This event combines two meaningful ways to give back: helping grow a greener Newark and helping address food insecurity in our community.
🌱 Plant With Us!
No experience necessary! Whether you're a first-time volunteer or a seasoned tree planter, everyone is welcome.
We'll provide the trees, tools, supplies, and hands-on guidance needed to make a lasting difference in our neighborhoods.
🥫 Give Back Through Our Food Drive!
In the spirit of giving, we're inviting volunteers and community members to bring nonperishable food items to contribute to our community food drive.
Suggested donations include:
- Canned vegetables and fruits
- Canned soups, beans, and proteins
- Rice, pasta, and cereal
- Peanut butter and other shelf-stable foods
Please bring unopened, unexpired items.
Food donations are encouraged but not required to participate. Everyone is welcome to volunteer, whether or not they can contribute to the food drive.
💚 Why Plant & Provide?
Healthy communities need both a healthy environment and access to essential resources.
Trees help improve air quality, reduce urban heat, manage stormwater, and beautify our neighborhoods. At the same time, our food drive provides an opportunity to support neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
Through the Newark Tree Canopy Initiative, we're working toward planting 2,700 street trees over five years while strengthening community connections across Newark.
🧤 What to Bring
- Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes
- A reusable water bottle
- Work gloves, if available
- Optional nonperishable food donations
Individuals, families, students, community organizations, and corporate volunteer groups are welcome!
Come ready to plant, provide, and make a difference!
