Join us once again in the heart of Pittsburgh for our annual Pittsburgh Fall Dance Weekend!!Dance all weekend long to the music of:
- Hot Coffee Breakdown
Hot Coffee Breakdown promises to caffeinate your dancing! Driven by traditional and original tunes from Tom Cunningham's fiery fiddle, and powered by the Latin and rock rhythms of Kate Sanders on keyboard and Luis de Leon on percussion and harmonica, Hot Coffee Breakdown will energize our dance floor with a refreshingly wide variety of contra dance music.
- Turnip the Beet
Turnip the Beet is a dance band duo from Nashville, Tennessee. Rooted in the traditions of Southern Appalachia and their local contra dances, Kelsey Wells and Jeremy Lekich combine fiddle, banjo, guitar, percussion, and the occasional mbira in an innovative and jubilant musical harvest. Expect to hear an organic mix of eclectic tunes from the American South, Ireland, Cape Breton, Quebec, and Scandinavia, as well as a half-bushel of grooving, homegrown originals.

About the venue:
We have a new, larger venue this year with more parking, better HVAC, more restrooms, and much more space for dancing, socializing and snacking. The Kingsley Association is a community center in the thriving East End of Pittsburgh. Kingsley serves the local community with after school programs, adult education, and recreational activities. We are thrilled to be using this space that is dedicated to social justice, economic justice and community convening.
We will be using the spacious gym on the first floor for our contra dances while our Saturday and Sunday workshops will be held upstairs in the beautiful yoga room overlooking East Liberty.
There is a swimming pool at Kingsley which is open to anyone for $10 per hour, so bring your swimsuit to unwind between dances.
Kingsley is within walking distance of numerous great restaurants and bakeries in the Garfield, Highland Park, Bakery Square and East Liberty neighborhoods.
Illness policy:
We ask that attendees take responsible measures to avoid the spread of illness. If you are experiencing any symptoms of cold, flu or Covid at the time of the dance, please stay home and contact [email protected] regarding a refund (less 20%).
Shoe Policy:
Please bring dedicated dance shoes (or sneakers) with soft leather or suede soles and non-marking heels. We offer dance socks at the Welcome Desk.
Housing/Hotels:
As always, we will attempt to pair out-of-town dancers with local dancers who have extra space in their homes. Details on the registration form. Apply by October 3 if you are requesting housing.
We will be gathering a list of nearby hotels and possible discounts. Stay tuned for updates.
Check http://pittsburghcontra.org/fdw/ for updates and schedule as these become available.
We can't wait to dance with you again!
