About this Event
Join us for a two-hour, all-levels natural dye workshop that explores the overlap between creative processes and resilient food systems.
This is a low-stakes, hands-on session. No prior dyeing experience needed. We'll walk through preparing a dye bath, working with natural fibers, and turning everyday waste streams into creative material.
All dye materials are provided. Just bring your curiosity and clothes you don't mind getting a little messy.
What to expect
- Hands-on time with natural dye baths
- A take-home sample or small dyed piece
- Conversation about how food waste can become creative input
This workshop is presented by Mechanism (formerly Urban Manufacturing Alliance) and hosted at Prototype, in conjunction with The Future of Food Production—our in-person event in Pittsburgh on October 1. See attached flyer for full details and registration.

- The building is not wheelchair accessible. There are about 8 steps to reach the Prototype space from the front door.
- Plenty of parking in front of and behind the building
