About this Event
Pipeline presented by Open Wings Theatre Company
Omari, a Black seventeen-year-old, is threatened with expulsion from his private school after he was recorded during an altercation with his teacher. His mother Nya, an English teacher at an inner-city school, is now at odds with the very system she had tried to shield him from when she sent him away.
Pipeline is a gripping, poetic exploration of the “school-to-Pr*son pipeline” that affects countless Black students in America. Without the words or methods to express his frustrations with this injustice, Omari must find his place in a world that pushes a very specific narrative for people like him. Nya too must challenge her expectations as she tries to understand her role and duty to her family, and how she can guide her son through these tribulations.
